DCNR BUREAU OF FORESTRY WANTS EVERYONE TO BE AWARE OF THESE FIRE PREVENTION TIPS. |
- While burning in a burn barrel, be sure to have a lid made for the top with holes no larger than ¼ inch to prevent the spread of your fire. “Do your part, don’t let a wildfire start”.
- When burning yard debris, please stay with your fire. Don’t leave until it is out cold. “Your debris fire could be the start of something big!”
- Be aware of local burning bans that may be in place before you start your fire. “Remember, wildfires don’t start big”.
- Keep 10 feet of area around burn piles or burning barrels free from combustible materials, to keep fires where they belong. “Bridges are for cars, not for wildfires”.
- Have a hose, bucket of water, and a shovel on the site of your fire. “Keep it clean and leave it green”.
- Don’t burn when it is sunny, dry, and windy. “Days like this are good for a picnic, not for debris burning”.
- By keeping a debris pile small (less than 4 feet); you can better maintain control of your fire.
“Fire prevention begins in your back yard”.
